This 3 days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari Offers Mountain Gorilla trekking, Golden Monkey tracking & Ibyiwachu cultural experience in the renown natural home of mountain Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park.
Volcanoes National Park is located in North Western Rwanda, which borders Uganda’s Mgahinga gorilla National Park, and Virunga National Park of the Republic of Congo.
The park spans a total area of 62 square miles, which is made up of rain-forest. The park borders Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park and Congo’s Virunga National Park. The park is a home to 10 habituated gorilla families, available for tracking all year round.
Besides Mountain Gorilla, the park is also home Golden Monkey, Large numbers of of bird species, and volcanoes including Muhabura, Karismbi, Bisoke, Sabinyo and Gahinga.

Detailed Itinerary of the 3 days Volcanoes National Park Rwanda safari
Day 1: Arrival for 3 days Volcanoes National Park Rwanda Safari
You will be picked by the driver from the airport, who will be your guide for the 3 days Rwanda safari to trek mountain Gorillas, Golden Monkeys and Visiting Iby’Iwahu .
Thereafter, your safari starts with city tour, where you will reach important sites like the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Crafts market in Kigali among others. Have lunch from one off the restaurants in Kagali, and depart for Volcanoes national Park.
You will arrive in the evening at the lodge in Musanze where you will check in, and later have dinner and an overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early in the morning for breakfast, then embark on your journey to Volcanoes national Park headquarters for briefing on the code of conduct for trekking Mountain Gorillas, and what to expect when you find them.
The ranger guide will share code of conduct of how you must behave during the trek, when with mountain gorillas, and when you are out.
Gorilla trekking schedule is unpredictable, but takes approximately 2 to 8 hours depending on the gorilla family, and how far they may have moved from the previous position, or otherwise the physical strength of the group members.
Return for lunch at the lodge, and if time allows, you can visit the Iby’Iwacu cultural village to learn more about the Rwandan history & culture, or visit the twin lakes.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes national park
Like Gorilla trekking, wake up early for breakfast, and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing about golden monkey trekking. Embark on your golden Monkey search with the ranger, who will give you directions and advices, while you search for them.
Golden monkeys are found in Uganda’s Mgahinga National park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes national Park in East Africa.
Unlike Gorillas, the golden monkey are generally more active and mobile, which requires continuous follow up, as they search for food, feed their young ones among other activities in the jungle. You will also spend a full hour in their presence, after then return for lunch.
Return to Kigali to your post 3 days Rwanda gorilla safari accommodation, proceed to the airport for your scheduled flight back home.
